Odd
Colors
Like in every breed also among
Dutch Shepherds appear "odd color" that are not accepted by the
standard. Mostly they are inherited recessiv and both parent must carry the
allel for this color.
The tendency at chromosoms for colors appers two times. Gold G is dominant over
Blue b.
If the mother is homozygot GG (both allele for color are identical), so just
carries the allel for color Gold, and if the father is heterozygot Gb, carries
recessive the color blue, there will never appear phenotypically a Blue Dutch
Shepherd puppy. One puppy always gets one allel from the mother and one from the
father, so the puppy will always get the dominate allel G from the mother and
its appearance will always be Gold. But due to his genes he can carry a blue
allel (Gb).
If both parents are heterozygot Gb blue offspring is possible. But the puppy
must get the blue allel from the father and from the mother, so its allele must
be homozygot bb to appear blue. Only bb-dogs look Blue because the blue color is
inherited recessive.
Odd colors among DS are blue-brindles, solid reds and such with a white marking
on chest. Here some pictures:
